This last weekend was quite nice and relaxing, though I did have a funeral service on Saturday.
Friday, I found myself making the program for Vicky de los Santos funeral service. Our rector was on a clergy/spouse cruise and could not be contacted. So, with Bishop Hernandez and Rev. Garcia, the service was planned and organized. The family had asked my mom and I to handle it for them. Friday evening I cooked for Mr. S and we spent a nice night in with a quick stop at Twist.
Saturday, I was very happy that Mr. S accompanied me to the funeral service (He told me "that's what boyfriends do"). We started the day with breakfast at the 11th Street Diner. We then went back and did our first costume change of the day. Vicky is being cremated, so the burial service will be at another time. The body was being brought to the church for this service. Mr. S got to see me in moderate OCD mode. As soon as I walked into the church, I began to fix things, move things and direct. I really wanted everything just right. When my mom arrived she took over as an usher and directing the guests.
I picked the readers ( I was one of them) and I was also a chalice bearer. Mr. S said it felt a little odd for him receiving communion from me. The service was, of course, in Spanish. I did translate some things for him and he recognized some of the hymns that were used. The service was simple and lasted about an hour. The family was appreciative and I am glad I was able to make things nice for my friend. Before I left the church, I did leave a picture of Vicky by votive candles near the alter.
My mom was impressed with Mr. S. We were both in suit and tie and she asked if we were going to a concert. We laughed. She also liked that he agreed with her that the organist played and sang a little too loud.
Once we were back on the beach, we did our next costume change, had a quick lunch and headed over to socialize at Twist. From there we went to the Palace to catch Tiffany and Geraldine. Mr. S. got to meet one of my long time friends, Noel, and his partner. (I have known Noel and his brother since Tampa 1987.) The weather was nice and the Volleyball tournament and Polo Tournament were in town, but there was still a nice crowd.
We ended early and spent the rest of the weekend lounging. We caught up on episodes of The Tudors, Weeds, Arrested Development and watched Capote. There was a lot of food involved, including a Sunday breakfast trip to News Cafe and an afternoon trip to Ben and Jerry's. It was nice to hang, eat, talk, relax. The windy and rainy day did help in making it a bit romantic and conducive to lounging. It did give me that energy boost, that all of us should get once in awhile, to start off the week.
I hope those of you in the North are doing okay and are safe with the weather you have received this weekend. Peace.
